Sola scriptura – only
scripture is authoritative.
1 Corinthians 4:6
Tota scriptura – all of scripture is authoritative.
Tota scriptura – all of scripture is authoritative.
Acts 20:27; Jeremiah 26:2;
Ezekiel 40:4; Matthew 28:20
Perfect scripture – only
scripture is inerrant in its original language.
Matthew 5:18; 2 Pet. 3:16; 2 Tim 3:16; 2 Timothy 2:15
Sufficient scripture –
scripture has all we need to be saved and sanctified.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
When people – particularly
leaders and teachers and councils – stray even a little from these four solid
truths we get confusion, heresy and apostasy. We get false gospels and false religions.
The Serpent in the garden of
Eden hissed: “Did God really say …” and thus
began the doubt in the Word of God. (Genesis 3)
The
woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must
not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you
must not touch it, or you will die.' ” But God had only said: “you must not eat from the
tree of the knowledge of good and evil”, so the woman, right at the
start, began adding things to the Word of God by saying that the prohibition
included the touching of the tree. It wasn’t long before she and her husband
were inventing false religion and trying to save themselves: ‘so they sewed fig leaves
together and made coverings for themselves.’
Build
your future and your hope on the bedrock of Scripture and the Gospel it speaks
of. Know and live out only the will of God as revealed in His Word. Otherwise you are building your future on
the shifting sands of human opinion, discovery, experience, inclination, theory
and tradition.
Would you really trust your eternal
future on people??
